You don’t need to know how to speak Chinese to work at Amerlish. Someone will be there for you to help you with what you may need. However, it doesn’t hurt to learn a little Chinese to help you get around China.
Yes, you can! We look for people from all types of background. We do like it when you have experience, but you can always learn with us. We will help you get your TESOL/TEFL certificate if you do not have one.
Living abroad is an exciting and challenging experience if you have never done it before, especially in China! Don’t worry, we will be here to help you through it all. Take note: culture shock affects people in different ways.
We have a lot of internship opportunities! You can be an intern and teach our summer or winter camps, work in curriculum, online marketing, and design and illustration. We offer year-long contracts for full-time teachers and curriculum developers. Unfortunately, we do not offer any part-time jobs at the moment. Check out our jobs page!
You have Chinese holidays and paid time off. Depending on the contract you sign with us, you have 3 paid sick days and can ask for unpaid time off as well.
This will depend on your job. As a full-time teacher, you will be working from 1:30 to 8:30 pm (30-minute lunch) Tuesdays to Fridays, and 9:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturdays (hour lunch). If you work a full-time job in the office, you will most likely work 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, Mondays to Fridays (hour lunch).
As a full-time worker, you will earn enough to save money for the future and live comfortably in Beijing. As with any financial goal, this will depend on how much you decide to spend and to save. The living cost in Beijing is lower than living cost in big American cities.
Yes, we provide a place to stay. You will have to pay rent, but we will provide a stipend for that. If you decide to live in another apartment, the stipend will still be provided.
Yes, we do provide quality health insurance for our full-time employees. We don’t provide any other insurance.

We provide housing, beds, bedding, furniture, and a fridge. We would suggest that you bring at least:
- 2000 RMB (approximately 300 USD) of money for your first month before you get your first paycheck.
- Western-style medicine.
- If you do not fit the Chinese build (sizing), bring clothing that fits you, such as tall clothing and wide clothing.
- Adapters.
- An unlocked phone. Make sure that it is compatible with China. Generally, phones bought at phone service companies are locked and expensive to unlock. Buy one from an Apple Store, Samsung store, etc., to avoid trouble once you come to China.
